Introduction to our team

We are a group of parents from Leidsche Rijn and are the team of LR-parents Connected. Here you’ll find our personal stories. We have in common that we know raising kids is fantastic. But sometimes it is exhausting and challenging. We can all relate our experience. Apparently we’re not the only ones trying to do our best. Sharing and getting recognized can make a big difference,

My name is Stefanie Jenniskens and I’m mom of a energetic and eager 8 years old boy. Who loves to play outside and is very fond of cars.

I’m lucky to live in Parkwijk where we can learn from each other as international neighbours – also for support in how to raise kids. Like most of our neighbours, I have immigrated too (from Germany). As a young mom I’ve experienced that parent-child group networks had changed permanently. Everything was open-ended. I feel the need to create a safe place where parents can share their experience, since I found it hard to find such a place. I’m doing this within the network ‘Ouders van Betekenis’. A place where parents can feel seen and heard and know where this safe place exists and where theme of raising kids can grow and be supported and that parents can grow in their (new) role.

I’m a coach to parents. Moreover I love nature and sustainability and find it important to implement these values in our nurturing. Also to teach our kids how nature supports our health. And what we can do to appreciate our environment and to keep it green and livable.

My name is Gabriela and I’m mom of a 10-year-old daughter.

20 Years ago I moved from Mexico to the Netherlands because of love and I married a dutch man.

For me, to emigrate is not just moving to a country, but also connecting the love for a different language. I mean that language can form the bridge to a different world. At the same time, in my opinion, this love is necessary to survive language barriers, e.g. that you can’t express emotions and feeling like in your mother tongue. This love has inspired me to support others. And for several years I’m connecting different parents and nationalities as a expert by experience and discussion leader. This experience has stimulated me to start the course to be a Spanish teacher. To be able to use my love for languages also in the Netherlands.

From the moment I’d become a mom, I had the privilege to learn another language: the language of raising kids.

I’m a very present parent in the upbringing of my child, curious and prepared to get inspired by other parents. That is very important for me: respecting each other and ones perspectives in nurture. I think it’s a opportunity to be able to discuss different perspectives in raising kids. And that brings me to the question ‘How can we support one another in easy and difficult questions on upbringing our kids?’

My name is Karin Peters. I’m married to Floris and we have 3 kids aged 9-14. We are living in Vleuterweide for about 15 years. A couple of years ago I became enthousiastic about starting a network for parents with other moms from LR (Family Factory LR), because we think raising kids and up-bringing is very important. Another reason is that we experience some challenges that we want to share and discuss with other parents.

Besides my work as a couple therapist (see vivarti.nl) I’m gladly committed to this network for parents, nowadays under the name of LR-ouders Connected. I hope to meet you soon at one of our activities!

My name is Cathy. I’m from Hong Kong and I have lived in the Netherlands for over 5 years. I’m mother to two energetic kids, Anabelle (aged 6) and Alexander (3 years old.). I used to work over 40 hours a week in fashion industry. After becoming a mom, my whole world has changed. My life changed from wearing beautiful high heels all day to non-stop changing diapers. From working at projects at night to comforting my babies at night. Nobody had ever shared what motherhood looks like! Yet I was lucky enough to meet friends and professionals who’ve inspired me during my parental travels. I’m still in love with fashion and through motherhood I’ve become interested in development of young kids. In the meantime I’ve become a certified baby massage instructor.

My name is Kathinka: For many years I’m supporting communities of parents. Where there’s a lot of attention to ‘how can parents cooperate at equal level with professionals’, apart from meeting and inspiring one another. Because I strongly believe that parents are professional about their own kids. Moreover, raising kids is quite a job and it’s nice to be able to get inspired by other parents once in a while. And when necessary a professional can join on the basis of specific expertise.

I work from a perspectieve of wanting to travel together. From being present (and not ‘we need to get to a certain point’) That’s how we build a sustainable community of raising kids in Leidsche Rijn.
